Nokia 5800 Star Trek edition warms up the UK for the movie

As trekkies dust off their costumes and prepare them for the long wait in line for the premiere of J.J. Abrams' reboot, Nokia are offering something to help them accessorize - Nokia 5800 Star Trek edition. It will come preloaded with Trek-related content like a phaser app, which will definitely help fend of people with lightsabre applications.

The Nokia 5800 Star Trek edition will be available in the usual color versions - red, blue and black/silver. Remember now, red uniforms are for tactical/engineering, blue are for science officers and silver… Okay, here our treknoledge betrays us.

Other content that will come preloaded with the Nokia 5800 Star Trek edition includes Trek wallpapers, screensavers and exclusive ringtones including "Phazer Shot", "Red Alert" and "Kelvin Communicator". Nokia 5800 Star Trek edition will be available in the UK starting May 1st for free with a 25-pounds-a-month contract with either Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile or Orange. It's just in time for the movie, which opens on the 8th of May.

Another interesting 5800-related piece of news today is that the phone will launch with Nokia's Comes With Music service in Brazil. During the first month after the launch, it will be available only through Brazilian operator TIM.

There's heavy accent placed on Brazilian artists with several domestic labels signed up to deliver content. The phone will be offered for 399 Brazil reais (181 US dollars) with an unlimited data plan. Some promotion-related perks offered by TIM include two months of free download of content and free access to the Internet and email.

Nokia 5800 Comes With Music is available in Brazilian stores starting today and everyone who preordered from the online store should get theirs by the end of the week.

Sony Ericsson C905

The C905 is Sony Ericsson's first Cyber-shot slider and its most advanced camera phone yet. With an 8.1 megapixel camera and real camera flash amongst its cutting-edge capabilities, it offers easy photo-taking in a phone that derives its looks from a digital camera and offers the picture quality to match.

The camera features auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos.

The camera is clearly the main selling point with the C905, but Sony Ericsson haven’t skimped on other features. The C905 has GPS, WiFi, HSDPA high-speed data, stereo Bluetooth and an FM radio.The display is a 2.4″ 240 x 320 pixel QVGA-resolution scratch-resistant mineral glass TFT display, and tucked behind it is a slide-out numeric keypad. There’s also a version of the Access Netfront web browser, push email support, instant messaging and of course a multimedia player.

The Sony Ericsson C905 measures 104 x 49 x 18 (19.5) millimetres, and weighs a massive 136 grams. It'll be available in Copper Gold, Ice Silver & Night Black in early Q4, with a bundled 2 GB Memory Stick Micro M2.

It comes in three variants, two with full support for UMTS and HSDPA in the certain regions (even America). The battery is good for 380 hours of standby or 9 hours of talk on GSM networks, or 360 hours of standby or 4 hours of talk on 3G networks.

The C905’s GPS can be used with Google Maps or Wayfinder, but it’s not clear what sort of satellite navigation options might be available as standard. As the C905 isn’t a smartphone, then the GPS functionality might be a little limited.

Samsung s30.

Samsung recently unveiled the Instinct s30 mobile phone, which on the outside looks like a smaller version of the original Instinct. However, the Instinct s30 is not really a mini Instinct.

Compared to the original Instinct, the s30 has a far sexier appearance. The curves around the edges make it more pleasing to look at compared to the blockish stature of the original Instinct. The 3.2-inch display with 432 x 240 resolution, however, leaves us begging for a much clearer screen. It takes quite a while to turn the power off, and the teeny-weeny 1GB microSD card slot makes it hard to eject. The saving grace in the Instinct s30's design is having a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.
The Instinct s30 uses the similar OS to the original Instinct, which some users find disappointing. The icons on the main screen could not be customized, and the text messages still appear as a pop-up alert even when the message panel or web browser is loaded, making an utter nuisance. The built-in applications for MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, and Photobucket come as mildly impressive, but the applications found in BlackBerry App World come as superior. But when it comes to the basic tasks like typing a text message, making calls, and checking voicemail, users can definitely rely on the s30.

The biggest beef about the Instinct s30 is the expensive price tag. Getting this phone on contract with Sprint for $130 could leave you wanting. The mobile phone does not have a radio nor WiFi connectivity. The web browser features a large sidebar that appears as a waste of space, and it only appears fine for viewing mobile web pages (but not that good in web pages). It does not have a multi-touch feature or even an accelerometer.

The bottom line: The Samsung Instinct s30 would have been a great lower-end phone if it is promoted as such.

In addition, the Probook s-series has been developed for reduced impact on the environment by eliminating or reducing substances said to harm the environment, using fewer resource and consuming lesser energy.

Sony Announces Two New Bluetooth Headphones: DR-BT100CX and DR-BT101

Whether you’re planning on listening to music or making calls, Sony has labelled its latest wireless headphone duo as perfect for either audio form.The DR-BT100CX and DR-BT101 are essentially the same thing: Bluetooth headphones capable of streaming music and voice calls from your handset into your ears. The main difference though is that BT100CX sports an in-ear design and BT101 looks like traditional headphones.
But several technical differences hide under their differently shaped exteriors. For example, the BT100CX earphones have 9mm driver units inside and are capable of a frequency response of 6Hz-23kHz, while the BT101 cans have more powerful 30mm driver units inside and a 14Hz-24kHz frequency response.

The duo both support Bluetooth 2.1, feature echo- and noise-cancellation technologies, have a 10m reception range and are compatible with four Bluetooth profiles: A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP.Sony’s in-ear cans only take 2.5 hours to recharge, but you’ll have to wait for four hours before the BT101 headphones will be fully powered up. Unsurprisingly, the overhead model’s longer charge translates into 12 hours of life and 200 hours of standby time, compared to just eight hours' playback and 120 hours standby life on the BT100CX model. Both units are charged through USB.
User controls for the BT100CX headphones are built onto a small controller unit and the larger over-ear can’s buttons are built onto each earphone.

The UK ain’t no stranger to the credit crisis and nor is Orange, one of many cell phone carriers in the country island. So much so in fact that they’re offering an ultra cheap touchscreen, pay as you go phone, the Vegas. Available in bubblegum pink or black, the Vegas is £48.50 ($72 US) and sports a 2.4-inch screen, 1.3 megapixel camera, media player, FM radio, 128MB of built-in memory expandable by microSD card slot. It’s available now.If you're looking to hop on the touchscreen bandwagon on a budget, Orange has just uncovered a new wallet-friendly handset that might be right up your street.

At a credit crunching £48.50, the Vegas is the cheapest touch screen pay as you go handset in the UK, and is available in classic black or, exclusively to the folk at Orange, a bubblegum pink for the ladiesThe specs are pretty limited as you might expect, but for under £50 you'll get a 1.3 megapixel camera, a media player and built-in FM radio. There's 128MB of built-in memory to store your snaps and music, but you get a microSD card slot that will let you whack up the capacity to a rather respectable 4GB.

The LG Arena KM900 is a high-end smartphone that recently debuted in Europe. This device's WVGA display and high-resolution video camera give it an emphasis on multimedia playback and recording.

The Arena has a large touchscreen and LG's new S-Class 3D user interface. This has a cube-based layout, and provides four customizable home screens for direct access to the phone's features. Shuttle X50 Nettop Finally Hits US Shores

The Shuttle X50, an all-in-one desktop with the low-power Intel Atom processor, is now available in the U.S. and Europe, the company announced Thursday. The X50 was first announced at CES in January.

It sports a dual-core Atom processor, 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP Home Edition, 5.1-channel audio, a Web cam and built-in microphone, 4-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a 15.6-inch touch-screen display. It's priced at $599. The touchscreen all-in-one Atom-powered desktop is a growing category of Nettops, which are generally defined as low-cost, low-power desktops. Before Shuttle's product was announced, Asus had already released the EeeTop, which has very similar specs. MSI's version is called the WindTop. Though these have only just begun to trickle out to consumers, PC industry observers see this as a viable subcategory of the tired desktop market. Because of the influx of these inexpensive touch-screen Nettops, the overall category of all-in-one desktops--which includes the much pricier Apple iMac and HP Touchsmart--is expected to grow more than 80 percent during 2009.

Sony Prices & Dates New NW-X1000 Series Touch Screen Walkman In Japan

Sony on Tuesday announced the Japanese pricing and release dates for its two Walkman NX-X1000 series media players first introduced at the start of the year at CES. The NW-X1050, which has 16GB of built-in flash memory, will cost the equivalent of about $403, while the 32GB NW-X1060 will cost $503. Either will be available in red or black when they are released on April 25th.

Both new-generation Walkmans are the first ever to use touchscreens and also sport built-in Wi-Fi that allows for browsing the web, downloading podcasts and viewing YouTube videos. A digital noise canceling feature uses software to filter out ambient noise. Integrated FM and 1Seg TV tuners provide mobile radio and TV, and similarly allow recording of content in markets that support the broadcasts.The players are seen as serious competition to the high-featured and popular Apple iPod products, specifically the iPod touch, with the standout features being their 3-inch OLED touchscreens which provide richer colors and have quicker response times than LCDs. Users can also control the operation of the players with more conventional side-mounted buttons that allow hands-free use.

The players support AAC, MP3 and WMA audio files as well as MPEG-4, H.264 and WMV videos; they should also be cross-platform and support at least basic drag-and-drop music loading in Mac OS X as well as sync in apps that support it. In-ear EX headphones with their own integrated passive noise reduction are bundled with each Walkman NW-X1000.

Samsung SGH-A657 toughs out everything, including its owner

Seems like Samsung and AT&T decided to go a little wild with their new Push to Talk mobile phone. The announced Samsung SGH-a657 is by its nature a squad leader. Figuratively of course, it is the sportiest mobile phone at the present moment. Samsung actually had to pick up military specification codes to design this tough guy. And as the result it meats them. It will be available pretty soon as AT&T has recently declared. Right in time I guess – just before the summer season when you might need it for camping whatever summer activity you prefer.

The sweetest thing about Samsung SGH-A657 is, as mentioned, military specification maintenance. Sounds and works great. Especially if you are really going to use it in extreme conditions of both – cold or heat. It will also tough out high humidity, dust, vibration and sun radiation. All that is nice to know, but we don’t normally choose a cell phone by this specs. As a civilian, SGH-A657 is also quite capable. It Supports 3G network, Push to Talk, Bluetooth v2.0, 128 MB expendable onboard memory, etc. The display only seems to be sacrificed. 176 x 220 TFT is not the thriller but yet, if we consider it as a secondary device for taking it out to rough places, it all starts to make perfect sense.

Sony Ericsson deserves a lot of credit for bringing music to cell phones. Though it was not the first company to develop the idea, its Walkman handsets have consistently combined a robust music player with admirable sound quality. And that was true a long time before the arrival of the ballyhooed Apple iPhone. Now the company has succeeded again with the Sony Ericsson W580i. Inside a sexy slider design are the usual high-end Walkman features, all of which deliver solid performance. The phone comes in white, black, and gray. We examined the gray model for this review but the features are the same on all models. AT&T has picked up the white model and is offering it at a very reasonable $79 with service. The W580i has a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers, an e-mail and Web address, a job title, company name and work address, a birthday, and notes. You can save contacts to groups and pair them with a photo and one of 19 polyphonic ringtones for caller ID. You also can select a video for callers and you can choose a pattern for the side-mounted lights. Other essentials include a vibrate mode, a voice memo recorder, text and multimedia messaging, an alarm clock, a calendar, a task list, a notepad, a timer, a speakerphone (usable after you make a call), a stopwatch, and a calculator.

Of course a phone like the W580i wouldn't be complete without such offerings as full Bluetooth (including a stereo profile), e-mail support, PC syncing, USB mass storage, a code memo for storing sensitive information, and USB cable support. The handset also capitalizes on its "Walkman" name by offering a number of fitness applications. There's a pedometer for running and walking, a sports trivia game, and a fitness trainer for tracking your workouts. There's even a bizarre yet interesting application that will let you calculate how long it would take you to walk to various world locations from your home city.Naturally, music is the main attraction on the W580i. Its Walkman player is nearly identical to that on other Walkman phones. Settings include an equalizer, playlists, stereo widening, and shuffle and loop modes. The interface is minimalist, but you can select a color skin and choose from one of two simple visualizations. The player also supports album art, but it won't recognize every song it plays. You also get an airplane mode for listening to your tunes with the phone transmitter off. Yet the W580i holds a new surprise with its "shake control" application. By holding down the Walkman button when music is playing you can advance to the next track by flicking your wrist. It works quite well and it's an attractive feature.

Loading music on the phone is relatively easy. The needed USB cable and the Disc2Phone software are included, so you're saved the pain of shelling out more money for a music kit. The Sony Ericsson software can be a bit clunky, so we're glad that you can also drag and drop music from your PC to the W580i. Internal memory is capped at a low 12MB, so it's advised you use a Memory Stick Micro card. You also get the standard FM radio and a Music ID application for identifying likable tunes you can't name. There's a quirky Music Mate application that shows the correct finger position for various guitar chords and piano chords while playing the notes. You can even use the phone as a metronome.
The 2-megapixel camera shoots photos in three sizes (2-megapixel, 1-megapixel, and standard VGA). Other options include two quality settings, three color effects, a night mode, white-balance and brightness adjustments, a digital zoom (unusable at the highest resolution), and four shutter sounds (there's no silent option). There's also a self-timer, a multishot mode, and an option for taking panoramic shots. The camcorder takes clips with sound and offers a set of editing options similar to the still camera. Clips meant for multimedia messages are capped at 30 seconds; otherwise you can shoot for as long as the memory permits. Picture quality was good, with acceptable colors and little blurriness, but we miss having a flash. The W580i comes with PhotoDJ and VideoDJ applications, and you can connect the phone directly to a photo printer.You can personalize the W580i with a variety of themes, wallpaper, screensavers and clock styles. As always, you can purchase more options and ringtones from Sony Ericsson via the WAP 2.0 wireless Web browser. Alternatively, the phone comes with a Music DJ application for composing your own ringtones. Gamers can enjoy two Java (J2ME) titles, The Sims 2 and Lumines Block Challenge, with additional titles available for purchase.

The yet unannounced Samsung S8000 specs seem quite the thing, especially having in mind the handset is rumored as the first Android phone by Samsung. As you may guess, it features a high-res display, full suite connectivity and sports Samsung's new 3D interface.
As we already informed you before, the Samsung S8000 is one of the upcoming full touch phones by the South Korean manufacturer. However, until now we knew for sure only one feature - the 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.
The Russian retailer Euroset.ru however already posted the S8000 up for preorder along with a few juicy specs details, but shortly after that it was removed from their catalog. Anyway we managed to retrieve the full specs sheet, which of course is not official yet, but seems quite close.
The Samsung S8000 sports a 3.1-inch AMOLED touch display with WVGA resolution and 16 million colors, the 5 megapixel snapper with flash, FM radio with RDS, 2GB internal memory expandable via microSD slot and 3.5mm audio jack. The rich connectivity options include 3G support, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and USB. Finally its body is only 12mm thin.

Surprisingly, the Samsung S8000 will be running on the Android OS and the new Cube-like button hints of some new 3D graphical user interface changes. The video player will support both DivX and XviD formats.

Back to the online store affair, the Samsung S8000 was posted by Euroset.ru at a pre-order price of approx. 470 euro, but at this stage there is no official word or announcement on this handset.
